BEAUX FRÉRES Pinot Noir Willamett Valley - 2004
Subtle, with a deceptively easy entry, offering lithe texture and cherry, plum and a distinct stony note that pick up steam and then hang on beautifully as the finish sails on and on, hinting late at sassafras. Tannins are well-integrated.
CHÂTEAU Haut Brion Pessac-Léognan - 1988
The wine of the vintage and one of the greatest Haut-Brions ever made. Superpowerful and ripe, with masses of spice, mint and berry character. Full-bodied, with full yet polished tannins, this wine is a joy to taste and will be for decades.
Clarendon Hills Astralis Clarendon - 2003
Aristocratic stuff, brimming with lovely blueberry, plum and vanilla flavors, wrapped in a mantle of peppery, cedary oak, finishing with plenty of flavor and a rousing intensity that promises a long, impressive development. A stylish red that shows no signs of quitting.
CHÂTEAU Mouton-Rothschild Pauillac - 1989
One of the stars in every vintage. The exciting 1989 Mouton defines class and concentration, with thick, chewy cassis, mint and berry flavors, full, silky tannins and great harmony. 25,000 cases made.
CHÂTEAU PÉTRUS Pomerol - 1986
This is classic Pétrus, showing layers of olive and violet aromas and flavors. It is full bodied, with full tannins and ripe berry flavors on the extremely long finish. --Pétrus vertical.
CAYMUS Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley - 2002
Rich yet sleek and concentrated, with tiers of ripe plum, wild berry and black cherry. Shows a touch of spice, sandalwood and nutmeg. The long, detailed aftertaste that keeps introducing new flavors. Best from 2006 through 2014. 8,800 cases made.
CHÂTEAU Margaux - Margaux 1983 (SOLD OUT)
Win of the vintage. Massive, with exuberant aromas of cassis, lead pencil and fruit which follow through on the palate. Full-bodied and incredibly velvety. Long, long finish. Try after 1998. -- The Bordeaux 50.
